CABOOSE ROSTER
The VBR had all of three cabooses. Number one was built from a box car and
was used till the 40's. Number two was a former Southern wood hack. It was
red with Virginia Blue Ridge in yellow on the side. Number three replaced
number two around 1959-1960. It was also former Southern...a bay-window
type. It was painted green and had no lettering for a while, then VBR in
stencil, and finally Virginia Blue Ridge spelled out. The cabs never had
their numbers displayed since none were used at the same time...each replaced
the previous. Number one rotted away on the property, Number two almost did.
It was sold to a railfan in Rapidan, and the last time I saw it, was still
rotting away in front of the old Rapidan Depot. Number three was sold to
Mississippi Export Railroad.
